SCHOOL HOUSE SPORTS DAY FRI 25th

Our annual Fyans Park House Sports Day are on next Friday.  This is always a fun day for our whole school community. Families are welcome to watch the various sports activities throughout the day and cheer for your house. The day finishes with a fun relay that you don’t want to miss from about 2.30pm – check next week’s newsletter for further details!

On this day, the Parents Association also holds a “Biggest Morning Tea” to raise money for the Cancer Council. This is an opportunity to support a worthy cause, and a chance to meet new parents and catch up with Fyans Park friends for a cuppa and chat. We would love to see as many people as possible; Mums and Dads, siblings even Grandparents are welcome!  The “Biggest Morning Tea” will be held from 11am in the Multi Purpose Room.  Tea and Coffee are provided, any donations of cakes, slices or biscuits would be greatly appreciated and can be left in the M.P. room kitchen on Friday morning.  So that the children can also be involved in our “ Biggest Morning Tea” this year we will be selling cupcakes for $1 at snack time!

 ASTHMA ALERT—parents PLEASE take note.

Last week we saw the tragic deaths of two Geelong children following asthma attacks. Asthma has become so common these days we often forget how serious and dangerous it can be. With excellent preventative drugs keeping people free of symptoms most of the time it is often easy to forget how quickly it can become very serious for a child. For those children undiagnosed but suffering occasional symptoms, it is very important to get checked by a doctor.

At Fyans Park we have some 30 students ‘registered’ as being asthmatic, but only one of these has an up to date registered Asthma Plan from a doctor. It is absolutely vital that if your child has asthma or symptoms they get checked by a doctor and use the preventers and relievers as required. School  must also be informed so we can support keeping your child safe. An Asthma Plan, signed by your doctor,  kept at school, helps us address any issues that may arise. Your child’s plan needs to be updated every year.

With symptoms worse during colder weather and during the cold and flu season it is vital you seek professional advice and then inform us of any medications. Where allergens or exercise  are triggers information for our teachers will help us treat your  child should they have an attack at school.

Children must also take responsibility by taking relievers with them as required. Especially to sports events and phys. ed., etc.

At school we have a first aid protocol for asthma attack that involves 4 puffs of ventolin every 4 minutes after which we call an ambulance. Attacks can be that serious. We have ventolin in first aid kits on yard duty, at excursions, camps, etc.

With the health and welfare of your children utmost in our efforts we ask for your support with this to avoid last weeks tragedy occurring again.

So if your child has asthma please look to getting an asthma plan from your doctor asap. Thank you.

SCHOOL DRIVEWAY SAFETY

The school driveway off Camden Road is not to be used by parents to drop off and/or pick up students.  The driveway is not a turn around and for the safety of students using the footpaths and the driveway as pedestrians, we ask that drop off/pick up be completed on Camden Rd please.

Another issue relating to the driveway is the number of parents walking students straight across Camden Road to vehicles on the other side, and not using the school crossing - just to save a minute or so. Camden Road is very busy and we ask for the safety of all that everyone use the protected crossing.

Young students and pre schoolers also need reminding that running down the driveway has caused cases where they cannot stop and they have run onto Camden Road in order to slow down. Can parents please monitor children down the  driveway to keep them safe.

Thank you for your help and support with these safety issues.
